As we approach the month September (and the start of the Filipino holiday season!), we wanted to give a gift to our Akma go-getters. After almost six months in quarantine, we are sure that you are all missing the gym and your go-to workout studios. As our early holiday gift to you, we are introducing #GearUpwithAkma–a zoom workout series that will be held during all weekends of September.
#GearUpwithAkma will feature eight coaches and experienced athletes from different backgrounds to bring various workouts to you. Here is a rundown of our eight amazing go-getters and what you can expect from their workout sessions!
1. Ia Hernandez (September 5, 4PM)
If you are looking for a way to unwind and relax, join Ia Hernandez in her Dynamic Yoga session!
Ia is the founder of Ia Yoga Studio in Parañaque. She started teaching two years ago with the goal to make yoga more accessible to everyone.
Ia is wearing the Ari Hooked Mesh Bra.
2. Karla Yu (September 6, 4PM)
Karla Yu is an OCR community coach at Spartan SGX Kalabaw and Obstacle Central. You can join her time based HIIT & Functional Training session if you are looking for an intense week-ender.
3. Alison Black (September 12, 4PM)
Learn some ballet from a former professional ballet dancer, Alison Black. She is the dancer behind Bedroom Ballet, and has been dancing for over a decade. If you are a former dancer or just love moving to music, her class is perfect for you!
4. Sheena Mabilangan (September 13, 4PM)
If you are looking for a new sport to try, Sheena Mabilangan’s introduction to gymnastics class is perfect for you! Sheena has five years of experience as a trainer and coach for Crossfit, strength and conditioning, and gymnastics. Her positive outlook will surely be the highlight of your Sunday afternoon!
5. Raissa Teaño (September 19, 4PM)
Raissa Teaño embodies what it means to be a go-getter. As a former UAAP swimmer and marathon runner, she knows her stuff about health and fitness. If you are looking for a way to work on your strength, Raissa will be hosting a strength training session for us.
6. Abby Jose (September 20, 4PM)
Abby Jose is all about the active lifestyle. She is a certified Spinning Instructor (L1 & L2), the head coach at The Upper Deck Club Cycling studio, and is currently taking up a Group Fitness Instructor Certification course with the American Council on Exercise. If you’re looking for a short but sweet burner, she’ll be hosting a total body circuit with us!
7. Mary Avila (September 26, 4PM)
Mary Avila was a former track and field champion garnering medals in Palarong Pambansa, UAAP, and various international competitions as a member of the Philippine National Team. She is now a certified coach at Gold’s Gym, UFC, and at the Ateneo De Manila University’s Track and Field team. If you are looking for a workout to help jumpstart your fitness journey, Coach Mary will be hosting a general fitness and athletics session.
8. Trish Buhat (September 27, 4PM)
Trish is a certified pilates coach and animal flow instructor. If you’re looking for a fresh new workout that is fun and challenging, move along with Trish in her animal flow class!
